Designing Equity

Designing Equity: Initiative Overview

The Zeidler Center, MKE<->LAX and Greater Together lead an initiative called "Designing Equity" to bring awareness to Milwaukee’s racial and economic inequality through public media campaigns, public art, creative placemaking, and facilitated public discussions.

This project has been generously funded by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.

[ Breaking Boxes ]

How do our various identities (race, gender, sexuality, class, age, etc.) shape who we are? What kinds of boxes do we contain ourselves in? What are the boxes outside that constrict us? How do we break those boxes? How do you like to be identified and what boxes would you like to break that people put in?

On March 12, 2017 the Zeidler Center & Ex Fabula (part of the Fellows & Facilitators Series), Milwaukee Rep (an extension of Disgraced programming), MKE<->LAX, Greater Together, and Designing Equity Project produced [Breaking Boxes]: An Identity Summit.

The day opened with performances by Ex Fablua fellows, followed by facilitated discussion with the Zeidler method, and ending with the Designing Equity's [Breaking Boxes] workshop where participants were asked to consider where they feel boxed in with how they are identified, and how they would like to break those boxes.
